🇺🇸 Land of the Free
Good morning, Kodiak Crossing, on this radiant Fourth of July. Today, as we come together, let's celebrate not only the spirit of freedom but also honor the deep respect and interdependence we share with this land and its original stewards—the First Peoples.
Chief Seattle once profoundly said, "Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself." This wisdom resonates deeply today, reminding us of our connection to each other and to the earth.
As we mark the day of this nation’s birth, it’s vital to reflect on the full history of this land. Today’s celebrations of freedom are shadowed by the memories of those for whom this freedom came at a great cost. Let's acknowledge that the liberty we cherish was built upon sacrifices—both seen and unseen—and honor the original inhabitants whose profound respect for nature teaches us about true stewardship.
Today, as we enjoy the festivities and fireworks, let us also reflect on our responsibilities: to preserve the bonds with our community, to respect the heritage of these lands, and to commit to a future where every voice is honored and cherished.
To echo the spirit of today’s reflection and celebration, I’m playing Richie Havens’ powerful rendition of 'Freedom' from Woodstock. Let his words inspire us to embrace freedom responsibly, with a heart full of respect for all who share this land. Here’s to a Fourth of July filled with thoughtful celebration and reverence.
Happy Independence Day Kodiak Crossing!
